Applied over corrected paint, ceramic adds chemical resistance to bird droppings, tree sap, road contamination, and fuel splash; delivers strong hydrophobic water-beading; and provides UV protection that slows fade and oxidation. Most professionally applied ceramic coatings last two to five years depending on product tier, prep quality, and maintenance. Its core limitation is rigidity — once cured, the SiO₂ layer cannot recover from micro-abrasion, so wash-mitt and touchless-wash swirls compound into visible marring by month twelve. Traditional ceramic is good. It’s also outdated.
Ceramic coating (SiO₂-based) was a massive leap over wax and sealant. It still gives you real chemical protection, strong hydrophobicity, and several years of life. It’s not bad — it’s just no longer the top of the pyramid.
