Paint correction is a multi-stage machine polishing process that physically removes defects from automotive clear coat — swirl marks, fine scratches, water spots, oxidation, bird-etch, and holograms — by leveling the surface under high-intensity inspection lighting. Unlike a standard polish or wax detail, which fills and hides defects with fillers and chemical compounds, true paint correction abrades the top layer of clear coat using machine polishers, foam and wool pads, and compounds calibrated to the exact condition of the paint. Every correction at The Recon Pros begins with a paint thickness gauge measurement on every panel to confirm there is safe working depth in the clear coat. The process is performed exclusively indoors under SunGun and LED swirl lighting — the only environment where defects can be accurately identified and verified as removed. Paint correction is a true craft that requires advanced training, experience, and the right environment to perform safely and correctly. Proper paint correction removes paint defects while restoring the original shine, gloss, depth, and clarity of automotive painted finishes—from classic single-stage paints to today's ultra-thin clear coats.

One-stage, two-stage, or multi-stage?
Paint correction is done in stages and steps, from a single stage to a multistage paint correction process using machines, pads, compounds and polishes. We diagnose your paint's condition, defects, and paint thickness and then recommend paint correction steps.
One step polish
A one step polish will remove very light swirls and wash scratches and add shine to the paint.
Two or three step correction
A two or three step paint correction will include both compounding and polishing to offer shine and gloss.
Full paint correction
A full paint correction consists of several steps and is considered the best choice when trying to achieve that show car perfect finish.
Wet sanding
Wet sanding is also a paint correction step and can do wonders to truly restore the painted finish. Wet sanding should only be done by a “Highly Trained” professional.
