Rosso shows everything.
Correct it before you seal it.

A red Ferrari under direct sun is the most revealing surface in car care. Every hologram, every buffer trail, every wash mark reads instantly — which is exactly why the correction has to be right before any coating goes on.

At a glance

Ferrari ceramic coating is worth doing, but only after the paint is genuinely correct — and on a Ferrari that bar is higher than on almost anything else. Ferrari's signature reds are among the most revealing finishes in car care: under direct sunlight they display holograms, buffer trails and fine wash marring with a clarity that darker and lighter colours simply do not. A coating cannot fix any of that; it fixes it in place. So the order is non-negotiable — measured, multi-stage correction first, then the topcoat. On chemistry, we recommend self-healing over traditional ceramic, because a ceramic cures rigid and cannot repair the marring that covers, trailering and even meticulous hand washing continue to introduce over the years. The Recon Pros installs Revivify exclusively — a urethane-based self-healing protective coating — and does not install traditional ceramic. In Huntington Beach, Mel Craig leads exotic corrections personally. Work starts at $2,495 and every car is quoted after inspection.

Ceramic coating, honestly

What a ceramic coating does — and why we install Revivify instead.

A ceramic coating is a liquid silica (SiO2) layer that cures into a hard, glass-like film bonded to your clear coat. It does real work: strong gloss, water and dirt that release far more easily, better resistance to UV, bird droppings, bug acid and road chemicals, and a car that is genuinely quicker to wash. Those benefits are not marketing — a good ceramic delivers them, and it is a legitimate step up from wax or sealant.

The limitation is that it cures rigid. A hard film cannot flex, so it cannot repair itself — every swirl your wash mitt puts in it stays, and any defect already in the paint underneath is sealed in for the life of the coating. That is why The Recon Pros installs Revivify exclusively instead. Revivify is a urethane-based self-healing protective coating: it stays flexible, so light marring closes back up under heat from the sun or warm rinse water rather than accumulating. Same gloss, same hydrophobics, same chemical resistance — and the finish still looks corrected in year three.

So if you are researching a ceramic coating for your Ferrari, you are in the right place — just know we will recommend the self-healing route and explain exactly why before you book anything.

What Revivify self-healing coating actually is →
The Ferrari problem

Red is the hardest colour to finish honestly.

Ferrari reds punish shortcuts. A finishing pass that would look flawless on silver leaves visible holograms on Rosso under a SunGun, and the customer sees them the first sunny afternoon they drive it. Any shop can make red look good in a workshop; making it hold up outdoors is the actual test.

That means the correction is judged under multi-angle inspection lighting, not overhead fluorescents, and the finishing stage takes as long as it takes. Only once the paint reads clean under a SunGun does a coating go anywhere near it.

How we approach it

Why the inspection lighting matters more than the compound.

You cannot correct a defect you cannot see. On Ferrari red, most shop lighting hides exactly the defects that show up in sunlight.

FAQ

Ferrari coating, answered.

Yes to protection, with a caveat on chemistry and a much bigger caveat on sequence. Never coat a Ferrari that has not been properly corrected — you will seal holograms and wash marring under a layer that has to be removed to fix them. Once the paint is right, we recommend self-healing over rigid ceramic, because covers, trailering and even careful hand washing keep introducing fine marring that a traditional ceramic will record permanently.
